Women's Soccer Stopped By MIT in NEWMAC Opener

MIT 3, WPI 0

Box Score

Worcester, MA --- Alisha Lussiez (Livonia, MI) collected a pair of breakaway goals over three minutes apart in the first half to lift MIT to a 3-0 victory over host WPI in NEWMAC women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.  With the result, MIT ups its record to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play.  WPI evens its mark at 5-5 on the year and 0-1 in NEWMAC action.

After WPI had mustered five of the game's first six shots, Lussiez took the game over.  In the 31st minute she took a feed from Erica Little (Sherborn, MA), got behind the defense and buried her third goal of the season.  In the 34th minute she came up with a ball that was deflected off a WPI player and went in alone for her second goal in just 3:08.

Lauren Hernley (Elizabethtown, MA) provide MIT insurance in the 77th minute when she recovered a loose ball inside the 18-yard box and tucked it low into the goal for her first career tally.

MIT goalkeeper Stephanie Brenman (Newton, MA) notched five saves en route to picking her third shutout of the season.   Abaigeal Caras (Essex, CT), her WPI counterpart, also made five stops on the day.

Both teams are back in action next Saturday with NEWMAC matches.  WPI will host cross-town rival Clark at 10am as part of homecoming weekend festivities while MIT entertains Springfield at 1pm
