Worcester, MA --- Alisha Lussiez (Livonia, MI)
collected a pair of breakaway goals over three minutes apart in the
first half to lift MIT to a 3-0 victory over host WPI in NEWMAC
women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. With the result,
MIT ups its record to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
WPI evens its mark at 5-5 on the year and 0-1 in NEWMAC
action.
After WPI had mustered five of the game's first six shots,
Lussiez took the game over. In the 31st minute she took a
feed from Erica Little (Sherborn, MA), got behind
the defense and buried her third goal of the season. In the
34th minute she came up with a ball that was deflected off a WPI
player and went in alone for her second goal in just 3:08.
Lauren Hernley (Elizabethtown, MA) provide MIT
insurance in the 77th minute when she recovered a loose ball inside
the 18-yard box and tucked it low into the goal for her first
career tally.
MIT goalkeeper Stephanie Brenman (Newton, MA)
notched five saves en route to picking her third shutout of the
season. Abaigeal Caras (Essex, CT),
her WPI counterpart, also made five stops on the day.
Both teams are back in action next Saturday with NEWMAC
matches. WPI will host cross-town rival Clark at 10am as part
of homecoming weekend festivities while MIT entertains Springfield
at 1pm
