Worcester, MA --- Leah Potcner (Wilmington, MA)
notched six saves en route to registering a shutout to help lift
Salem State to a 3-0 victory over host WPI in non-conference
women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. With the
result, Salem State improves 2-0 on the season while WPI see its
record level at 2-2.
The Lady Vikings received a lift from their bench as their first
and third goals were scored by reserves. Alyssa
Konsavitch (North Stoneington, CT) was the only player to
dent the scoring column in the first half when she knocked home a
pass from Judith Orvis (Amherst, MA) in the 39th
minute.
Erin O'Brien (Hanson, MA) extended the
advantage just after intermission with a tally in the 48th minute
before Adele Pasquariello (Saugus, MA) closed out
the scoring in the 62nd minute by burying a feed from
Jennifer Surabian following a corner kick.
WPI goalie Abaigeal Caras (Essex, CT) was
credited with five stops while Kristen Garza
(Kingston, MA) paced the Engineers with four shots on the
afternoon.
SSC, who has not allowed a goal in two victories this season,
outshot the Engineers by a slim 13-11 margin.
WPI will close out a brief two-game home stand on Tuesday with a
4pm match against Elms. Salem State will return to action on
Thursday when they host Colby-Sawyer at 6pm.
