WPI 70, Wellesley 45

Box Score

Worcester, MA --- Serena Dubois (Bangor, ME) notched a double-double to highlight four WPI players in double figures as the Engineers defeated visiting Wellesley 75-40 in NEWMAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.  With the win, WPI ups it record to 10-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference play while Wellesley falls to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in NEWMAC action.

Dubois registered 15 points and corralled 10 rebounds en route to registering her fourth double-double of the season and ninth of her career.  She also led all players with three assists and four steals.

Elle Fontaine (Franklin, MA) added 14 points for the Engineers while Kaileen Selen (Worcester, MA) and Melissa Kuhn (Stoughton, MA) each tossed in 10.  Kuhn connected on all three of her 3-point attempts and converted a rare 4-point play.  Natasha Deschene (Presque Isle, ME) also turned in a strong game.  The senior point guard totaled eight points to go along with six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

Jessica Duff (Milton, Abingdon, UK) paced Wellesley with a double-double of her own.  The senior posted 14 points and gobbled up 10 rebounds for the Blue.  KD Stearns (Eustis, FL) grabbed 10 boards as well to help Wellesley enjoy a 45-34 edge on the glass.  Julia Thomas (Concord, CA) and Robyn Burleson (Seattle, WA) poured in eight and seven points respectively.

After an early 2-2 tie, WPI rattled off 10 of the next 11 points to take a lead they would not relinquish.  The Engineers took a 38-24 advantage into the locker room at the break and would not see their lead cut to single digits the rest of the way.  The WPI defense played a major role as the Crimson and Gray parlayed 31 Wellesley turnovers in 37 points.

Both teams continue NEWMAC play with home games on Wednesday at 7pm.  WPI hosts Wheaton in a match-up of the last two NEWMAC regular season championships while Wellesley entertains MIT.
