Boston, MA --- WPI junior Kristen Garza
(Kingston, MA), the Engineers' career goal-scoring leader, scored
two goals while assisting on two others to lead WPI to a 5-1
victory over Newbury in non-conference women's soccer action on
Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers move to 3-4 on the
season, while the Nighthawks drop to 1-1-2.
Garza put WPI on the board early, 10 minutes into the match, when
she found the back of the net on a pass from senior Liz
Schreiber (Ashfield, MA). Eight minutes later Garza
found senior Stacey Rudolph (Somers,CT) for the
Engineers second goal of the game.
WPI opened the second half the same way they did the first half. On
a pass from freshman Lindsey Grasis (East
Brookfield, MA) Garza scored her second goal of the game. The
Engineers fourth goal of the contest was the reverse of their
second as Garza found an open Grasis to give WPI the 4-0 lead.
Sophomore Victoria Howland (Red Hook, NY) scored
WPI's fifth and final goal from classmate Hailey
Taylor (Colusa, CA).
Junior Ashley Greene-Allen (Brockton, MA) scored
the Nighthawks lone goal on a break-away late in the game from
Jessica Graus (Rochester, NY).
WPI is back in action on Tuesday when they will travel west to
face Westfield State at 7:00pm. Newbury will play next Saturday
when they travel to Southern Vermont to face the Mountaineers.
