Box Score

Worcester, MA --- All 16 players that dressed dented the scoring and rebounding columns and 13 different players dished out at least one assist to help WPI defeat visiting Fitchburg State 85-47 in a non-conference men's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.  The victory helps the Engineers, winners of four straight, move to 10-1 while Fitchburg State dips to 3-7 on the season.

WPI led wire-to-wire, improving to 6-0 this season at home.  The game marked the sixth time in 11 contests that the Engineers did not trail and the Crimson and Gray have only been behind at home for a total 22 seconds out of 240 minutes played this season at Harrington Auditorium.

The hosts used 9-0 and 10-0 spurts in the opening half of the first stanza to open up a 44-23 halftime advantage.  The Engineers converted 11 Fitchburg State first half turnovers into 20 points and controlled the boards in the initial 20 minutes by a 23-13 margin.

Fernando Perez (Lowell, MA) and Ryan Brown (Worcester, MA) shared game-high scoring honors for the Engineers with 13 points while point guard Kyle Nadeau (Webster, MA) tossed in a season-best 11.  Lone senior Bennett Lessard (Belgrade, ME) paced a balanced effort on the boards, hauling in team-high six rebounds.  On the day, WPI enjoyed a 20-6 edge in second chance points while out rebounding the Falcons 48-29.  Jamie Shannon (Lowell, MA) totaled four assists for the hosts.

Tim Graham (Arlington, MA) led the Fitchburg attack with 10 points and seven rebounds.  Colin London (Worcester, MA) aided the visitors with seven points while Kyle Berk (Putnam Valley, NY) contributed five points in just eight minutes of action.

WPI is back in action on Wednesday when they open up NEWMAC conference play with a trip to Norton, MA to face Wheaton at 5:30pm.  Fitchburg State ventures to Anna Maria on Tuesday for a non-conference tilt beginning at 7:30pm.
