Women's Hoops Wraps Up Non-League Slate With Loss at Middlebury

Middlebury, VT --- Middlebury's Brittany Perfetti (Clifton Heights, PA) opened the second half with a three, building a double-digit lead as the Panthers cruised to a 66-42 win over WPI at Pepin Gym on Sunday. With the victory, Middlebury (4-3) extended their win-streak to four in a row, while the Engineers drop to 7-4 on the season. In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, Middlebury went 5-for-7 from behind the arc and held a 38-22 rebounding advantage.

WPI raced out to an early 13-5 lead, highlighted by seven points from Elle Fontaine (Franklin, MA). The Panthers closed out the first half on a 25-9 run, taking a 30-22 lead into the break. Maddie Moreau (Canton, NY) hit five buckets during the run, scoring 10 of her 11 points in the final 13 minutes of first half action.

Perfetti's three opened the scoring in the second half, as the Panther went on a 13-1 run to take a 43-23 lead with 16:07 left in the game. Alana Wall (Honolulu, HA) chipped in five points during the run and another Perfetti three keyed the burst. The Engineers rallied with a 14-5 run, as Fontaine scored seven points including a three at 8:59, setting the score at 48-37. Perfetti matched the Fontaine three with a three of her own on the next possession for a 14-point advantage. The lead ballooned to 20 points in the final minutes as Middlebury coasted to victory. 

Perfetti led the Panthers with 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting including three threes. Wall and Moreau each chipped in 11 for Middlebury, while Jesse Miller (Wellesley, MA) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Fontaine led all scorers with 16 on 6-for-11 shooting and three steals.  Melissa Kuhn (Stoughton, MA) added eight for WPI and Lauren Hannmann (East Greenbush, NY) chipped in with six points.

With their non-conference schedule now complete, the Engineers will return to NEWMAC play on Wednesday at 7pm when they venture to New London, CT to take on Coast Guard.  The Crimson and Gray is 3-1 in conference play, tied with Wheaton for second place behind Babson.
