Worcester, MA --- Freshman Theresa Logan
(Southboro, MA) poured in a career-best 19 points to lift host WPI
past city rival Clark 70-49 in NEWMAC women's basketball action on
Saturday afternoon. With their third straight win, the
Engineers push their record to 13-6 on the season and 9-3 in the
league. Clark is now 4-15 overall and 3-9 in NEWMAC play.
WPI used a smothering defense to force 28 turnovers, including
17 in the first half. The Crimson and Gray held Clark
scoreless over a 10 minute stretch midway through the opening
stanza, turning a 11-9 deficit into a 22-11 advantage.
The Cougars would attempt to claw back into the contest, drawing to
within five at 24-19, before Melissa Kuhn
(Stoughton, MA) and Lauren Hannmann (East
Greenbush, NY) canned 3-pointers in the final minute of the half to
send the hosts to the locker room with a 30-19 lead at the
break.
Logan's 19 points off the bench tops her previous career-high of
18 set against Johnson & Wales. Hannmann aided the WPI
effort with 15 points and six rebounds while Kuhn chipped in with
14 points, a game-best five assists and four
steals.
Brittany Kennedy (West Hartford, CT) and
Kelsey Johnson (Shirley, MA) shared game-best
scoring for Clark with 10 points. It was a career-high for
Kennedy, who tallied all of her points in the second half.
Jillian Camilleri (Lancaster, MA) led all players
with eight rebounds on the night to go along with nine points while
Kate Minister (Manchester, England) added eight
points, four assists and four boards.
WPI heads to Springfield on Wednesday for a key NEWMAC road
contest that is scheduled to tipoff at 7:30pm. Clarks opens
up a brief two-game homestand the same day, hosting Wheaton at
5:30pm.
