Women's Soccer

Fitchburg State Hands Women's Soccer a Shutout Loss

Worcester, MA --- Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, MA) and Carrisa Kennedy (Somerset, MA) each netted a goal to lift the Fitchburg State women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout over host WPI in a non-conference matchup played on Saturday afternoon.  The Falcons won their third straight game to improve to 3-1 on the season while the Engineers drop to 1-3.

Jamieson scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 22nd minute when she buried a feed by Rebecca Spiro (Marshfield, MA) for her second goal of 2011.  

The Falcons added an key insurance goal at 76:46 as Kennedy chipped in a shot from 10 yards out after a feed by Kayla Bridges (Foxboro, MA).  The marker was the team-best fourth for the senior  tri-captain this fall.

Sophomore Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, MA) made three saves to earn the shutout in between the pipes for the Falcons.  WPI standout goalkeeper Maddie Willer (Penfield, NY) also made three stops for the Engineers.   

Jamieson led all players with four shots while Megan Forti (Lynn, MA) and Hailey Taylor (Colusa, CA) combined to take four of WPI's shot attempts on the day.  In addition to holding a 9-5 advantage in shots, FSU had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.  

Both team look ahead games early next week.  WPI heads down Park Ave. and across Chandler St. to face crosstown rival Worcester State at 7pm on Worcester.  Fitchburg State is back in action on Tuesday, hosting Becker 7pm.
