Worcester, MA --- Conference tri-leader MIT tallied a goal in each half and goalkeeper Meghan Wright (Devon, PA) registered her fourth shutout of the season as the visiting Engineers notched a 2-0 victory over WPI in NEWMAC women's soccer action on Saturday evening.

MIT, ranked eighth in the latest New England coaches rankings, improves to 7-2-1 on the season and sits at 3-0 in the conference with Wheaton and Springfield.  WPI drops to 4-6 and 0-3 in NEWMAC play.

Emily Kuo (Chicago, IL) put MIT on the board at 36:23 when she settled a pass from Priyanka Gaur (Austin, TX), spun around a defender and rifled it past a diving WPI goalkeeper. The goal by the senior was her team-leading ninth of the year.

WPI had a great scoring opportunity in the second half on a free kick by Megan Forti (Lynn, MA), who placed an impressive ball in front of the net. Sophomore Alex Dustin (Spencer, MA) took the kick and directed a header towards the net but Wright made an outstanding save, deflecting it off the cross bar and then corralling the ball.

MIT scored its second goal of the contest at 77:00 when Michaelann Rodriguez (Florence, AL) won a foot race to the ball and placed it in the far left corner of the net for her second marker of the season.

Wright ended the day with four saves while Maddie Willer (Penfield, NY) was impressive in net once again for the home-standing Engineers, turning away nine shots for the hosts.

MIT held a 13-6 advantage in shots with Kuo leading all players with five shots.  Forti led the way for WPI with three shots.  Cambridge's Engineers took four of the game's seven corner kicks.

Both teams have NEWMAC contests on Tuesday at 4pm.  WPI travels to Mount Holyoke for a 4pm match while MIT hosts Wellesley.
