Tilbe, Amato, Perruccio and Jennings Lead Wrestling to 2-1 Mark at Trinity Quad

Hartford, CT --- Tyler Tilbe (Woodbury, CT) and Brian Amato (Newington, CT) both captured three bouts and Mike Perruccio (Pelham, NH) and Brian Jennings (Danbury, CT) each won twice as WPI went 2-1 at the Trinity Quad on Saturday.  The Engineers defeated Wesleyan 21-15 and the host Bantams 33-12 after falling to Roger Williams 35-10 in the opener.

The Crimson and Gray dominated the lightweight events en route to posting their first victory over Wesleyan since 2006.  It was the first win for the Engineers in series in seven tries over the Cardinals but the Boynton Hillers do enjoy a 27-16 edge in all-time meetings.  In a match-up that featured eight decisions, Tilbe and Perruccio got WPI off to a strong start with 6-2 and 2-1 wins respectively at 141 and 149 pounds.  Wesleyan rallied to capture four of the next five bouts with Justin Marsh (Upper Black Eddy, PA) getting a key 7-4 decision for WPI in a battle of regionally-ranked wrestlers at 174.  The Engineers then closed the match with three straight wins, including a forfeit from Peter Salem (Dracut, MA) at heavyweight, a 3-1 decision by Amato at 125 and 4-0 shutout by Jennings at 133.

The Engineers won the first four hosts in its matchup with the hosts. Perruccio, Zachary Rahl (Pittsgrove, NJ), and Joe Pizzuto (Liverpool, NY) all brought home wins by decisions at 149, 157 and 184 while Tilbe, Torin Zonfrelli (Carver, MA), Amato and Jennings all were credited with forfeit victories.

The opener against Roger Williams featured three triumphs for the Crimson and Gray.  Tilbe recorded a 9-1 major decision at 141 pounds, Lucas Muntz (West Hartford, CT) registered a 9-3 victory at 174 and Amato had his hand raised in a match-up with a regionally-ranked opponent at 125 (3-1).

WPI is back on the mat next Sunday, January 26th, at the NEWA Dual Meet Championships hosted by Bridgewater State.
