Box Score Worcester, MA --- Sophomore Terry Neutsil (Baldwinsville, NY) buried a rebound 6:55 into overtime to lift Coast Guard to a 2-1 triumph at WPI on Tuesday night in a key NEWMAC women's soccer match at Alumni Stadium.
The Bears improve to 7-4-1 on the year and even out at 2-2 in conference play while the Engineers slip to 5-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the loop. WPI is now 2-2-2 in overtime games this year, including a 2-1-1 mark in league action.
Neutsil knocked home a rebound to the lower right corner of the net following an initial shot by junior Sarah Hills (Brooklyn, NY).
In the first half, Hills dented the scoring column in the 32nd minute off a cross from junior Hanna Jansson (Haworth, NJ). WPI tied it back up in the 47th minute as Sophomore Emma Turton (Mechanic Falls, ME) scored her fifth of the season. Classmate Erin Bracken (Bridgewater, MA) helped setup the equalizer when she sent the ball to Turton at the top of the box.
Engineer sophomore netminder Abbey Teliska (LaGrangeville, NY) notched four saves as Coast Guard senior goalkeeper Holly Moore (Pittsfield, MA) stopped a match-high 10 shots, including a trio of spectacular saves in the first half.
Despite the setback, the Engineers outshot the Bears 18-8 and took four of the six corners in the contest.
WPI is off until Saturday, October 18th when it travels to Wellesley for a 1pm match. Coast Guard is back on the pitch this Saturday, entertaining Babson at noon.
