Bracken Boosts Women's Soccer in 1-0 Win Over Wheaton

Box Score

Norton, MA --- Erin Bracken (Bridgewater, MA) broke a scoreless tie in the 75th minute to lift WPI to a 1-0 victory over Wheaton in a NEWMAC women's soccer match Saturday afternoon.

The Engineers, who have defeated the Lyons in back-to-back regular seasons, improve to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in NEWMAC play. Wheaton slips to 6-2 on the year and opens its conference season 0-1.

Bracken found the opening and netted the lone goal of the game on the right side of the net.

During the first half, Wheaton put up strong defense as they blocked multiple shot efforts from WPI. On the opposite side, the offense was only able to put up two shots as Julia Cipriano (Middlebury, CT) and Julie Beyar (South Hampstead, NY) tried to get on the scoreboard for the Lyons.

In the second half, it was an even matchup as both teams attempted multiple shots to get ahead, but Cipriano, Beyar and Sarah Buckley (Oviedo, FL) couldn't break through for a goal.

In the final minute of the game, Buckley offered one hard shot on goal to try and tie it, but came up short as WPI took the win.

Abbey Teliska (LaGrangeville, NY) stopped a game-best five shots in the clean sheet while Leann Wolf (Santa Maria, CA) turned away one for the Lyons.

WPI hosts Babson Tuesday at 4pm. The Lyons travel to Amherst on Sunday with game time scheduled to start at 2pm.
