Box Score

Paxton, MA --- Jackson Conroy (Reading, MA) notched a pair of goals in the opening 15:37 as WPI concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 6-0 shutout of host Anna Maria in a men's soccer contest played early Wednesday evening.

The Crimson and Gray, ranked 12th in the most recent NCAA Division III New England regional rankings, improved to 9-3-4 and close out NEWMAC play on Saturday by hosting MIT at 7pm.  With the loss, Anna Maria wraps up the season at 2-13-1.

The Engineers wasted little time getting on the board as they scored their first goal just 35 seconds into the game.  WPI added a second tally in the 16th minute, and recorded a third goal in the 21st minute to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.  Conroy netted the first two goals for WPI. The first one was assisted by Brendan Nemes (Kingston, MA), while goal two was assisted by Mark Calnan (Winchester, MA). Matt Farrell (Groveland, MA) netted the third goal in the 21st minute on a cross from Calnan for his second assist of the day.  The visitors held a 16-1 advantage in shots in the first half and a 7-0 lead in corner kicks.

In the 54th minute, Luke Reiniger (Rowley, MA) crossed the ball from the left side to right post to set up Ryan Stokes (Fairpoint, NY) for the score.  The Engineers took a 5-0 lead on a penalty kick by Chris Fernandez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) in the 64th minute.  In the 85th minute Guillaume Poisson (Boucherville, Quebec) crossed the ball in from end line to Charles Sanderson (Hadley, MA), who stuffed it in the for Engineers' sixth goal of the game.

WPI finished with a 33-5 advantage in shots and a 11-0 edge in corner kicks.  Anna Maria's best chance to score came in the final minute of the game, as Gift Kalombo (Worcester, MA) had an open look on net, but his shot was directly at the keeper.

Jonathan Alicea (Feeding Hills, MA) took the loss in net for Anna Maria with nine saves. Connor Hoeckele (Granby, CT) earned the victory with 45 shutout minutes before giving way to Jordan Finzel (Northport, NY) and DJ Newman (DeWitt, NY), who split time in the second half and recorded a save each.

Prior to tonight's start, the AMCATS honored four seniors playing in their final game: Alicea, Christopher Mattioli (Sturbridge, MA), Dalton Gill (Florida, NY) and Diego Torres (South Yarmouth, MA).
