Men’s Soccer Lands Five on College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team

College Sports Communicators Academic All-District - WPI Men's Soccer
WORCESTER --- The WPI men's soccer program placed five student-athletes on the 2025 NCAA Division III College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as announced last week.

The 2025 Academic All-District Men's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

This year's honorees include seniors Tora Ito (Hopkinton, MA), Anthony Coutts (Millis, MA), Edward Zazzali (Nutley, NJ) and Evan Haas (Concord, NH), and sophomore Mike Montabana (Jamison, PA). Haas earns his third career CSC Academic All-District honor, while Ito collects the distinction for the second time in 2025.

Ito, a senior midfielder, appeared in 18 contests with five starts for the Engineers this fall, contributing three assists on the season including the helpers on both game-winning goals for the Crimson and Gray in the NEWMAC Tournament. Off the field, Ito holds an impressive 3.97 GPA in mathematical sciences and is now a three-time Academic All-NEWMAC honoree.

Fellow classmate, Coutts, started all 20 matches in the midfield for WPI adding a goal to force a tie against Dean in non-conference play in early September. Academically, the tri-captain carries a 3.95 GPA as a society, technology and policy major and is a three-time men's soccer academic team selection from the NEWMAC.

Zazzali, a senior captain, started all 20 contests and was instrumental in organizing WPI's back line throughout the fall. The senior defender had just 12 appearances throughout his first three seasons and elevated his presence with 1,715 minutes in 20 starts. The New Jersey native maintains a 3.92 GPA in civil engineering and is a three-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honoree. When not in the classroom or on the field for the Crimson and Gray, Zazzali serves as a national representative for WPI and NEWMAC on the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Haas, a senior defender and now three-time CSC Academic All-District selection, started all 18 matches he appeared in and added two goals and an assist, including a helper on the game-winning strike that secured WPI's postseason berth. A three-time All-NEWMAC selection and team captain, he concludes his career with 4,856 minutes across 61 appearances guiding the Engineers to NEWMAC Championship match berths in both 2023 and 2025, including the 2023 title.

Off the pitch, Haas boasts a 3.97 GPA in electrical and computer engineering, is a six-time Dean's List recipient, and completed an IQP in Ecuador focused on assisting underserved communities.

Montabana, a sophomore midfielder, made an immediate impact in his second season with 20 appearances and 18 starts, tallying a team-high eight points on three goals and a pair of assists en route to his first All-NEWMAC selection on the second team.

In the classroom, he holds a 3.73 GPA in industrial engineering.

WPI concluded the season with an 8-7-5 overall record and returned to the NEWMAC Championship match for the second time in three seasons.
