Boston, MA --- Elizabeth Horan (Ashland, MA) highlighted three Emerson players in double figures scoring as the host Lions defeated playoff bound WPI 59-48 in a NEWMAC women's basketball contest played Saturday afternoon.  

WPI, who will be the two seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament and will host seventh-seeded Smith in a quarterfinal on Wednesday at 7pm, dips to 21-4 overall and 13-3 in conference play.  Emerson wraps ups in 2015-16 season with a 11-14 mark and a 6-10 record in NEMWAC action. 

Ama Biney (Worcester, MA) shared game-high scoring honors with 17 points for the Engineers.  The sophomore was 8-of-20 from the floor with five rebounds (3 offensive), a pair of steals and an assist.  Yasmeen Luna (North Providence, RI) joined her in double digits with 10 points while canning 5-of-9 field goal attempts.  The duo accounted for 14 of WPI's 20 baskets on the day as the Crimson and Gray shot just 27.5% (19-of-69) from the floor, 2-for-16 (12.5%) from 3-point range and drained only 8-of-19 (42.1%) tries from the free throw line.  

Stasha Greenalch (Newington, CT) contributed six points in 11 minutes off the bench, Haili Welton (Southbury, CT) gobbled up five defensive rebounds and Tess Nogueira (Merrimac, MA) handed out half of WPI's four assists.

Horan was outstanding for the Lions from long range.  Five of the junior's six hoops were from 3-point range.  Charlie Boyle (Scotts Valley, CA) came off the bench to add 11 points for the hosts while Janissa Delzo (Middlesex, NJ) netted 10.  Eastin Ashby (Pittston, PA) was a force on the boards for Emerson, totaling 10 rebounds, including nine on the defensive glass. 

Horan highlighted a 10-2 Emerson spurt in the final 2:08 with a pair of trifectas that gave the Lions a leads they would not relinquish.  The lead ballooned to 16 in the fourth quarter before Biney tallied the final five points of the contest but the Engineer comeback fell short.
