Box Score Boston, MA --- Ama Biney (Worcester, MA) notched her second double-double and Tess Nogueira (Merrimac, MA) was a rebound shy of her first career one as WPI women's basketball went on the road Saturday afternoon and defeated Emerson 56-43.
With the score even at 37-37 early in the fourth quarter, WPI went on a 14-1 run that saw six different players notch baskets, including a pair by Maura Buckley (Melrose, MA) to sprint ahead 51-38.
Emerson answered with five points to creep within eight at 51-43 but the Engineers scored the final five points in the last 1:19 to head back to Worcester with the conference road victory.
Nogueira notched a game-high and career-equaling best 11 points for the visiting Engineers with nine rebounds and an assist. Biney and Priscilla Dunphy (Barrington, RI) followed with 10 points apiece with Biney tallying a team-best 10 boards, four assists and seven steals. Stasha Greenalch (Newington, CT) contributed seven points, eight boards two assists and a pair of steals.
For Emerson Quinn Madden (Mokena, IL) finished going 4-for-11 on the floor with 10 points off the bench, along with four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Charlie Boyle (Scotts Valley, CA) led the starters with 10 points, going 4-for-7 from the field with a team-best eight boards. Junior Sierra Ducey (Poway, CA) also had eight rebounds as well as four assists. Maya Savino (Killingworth, CT) led the defense with three steals.
Emerson (8-9, 2-7 NEWMAC) finished shooting 34% from the field and went 8-for-11 from the charity line (8-for-11) while WPI shot 37.1% from the floor and were 9-for-13 from the free throw line (69.2.%).

NEWMAC ) gained their biggest lead of the first quarter at seven at the 4:10 mark on jumper by Dunphy to give the Engineers the early 11-4 edge. Emerson managed to pull within three on a shot from downtown by freshman
Natalie Clydesdale (Pittsburgh, PA) to put the score at 13-10. The Lyons Emerson closed the quarter behind by four after Madden dished out a layup (16-12).
The guests upped their lead to eight on two occasions before the Lions managed to closed the gap to four after a pair of good free throws by Savino to put the score at 24-20. After the Lions cut the lead down to four, WPI outscored the Lions 7-0 through the final 5:05 of the half and entered the locker room with the 31-20 advantage.
The hosts found themselves down 14 in the opening minutes of the third quarter, but caught fire in the midst of the quarter with a 8-2 streak. On a trey by Boyle with 24 ticks left, Emerson made their way into the final quarter down by three at 37-34.
Emerson jumps back into road action as the Lions head down to Coast Guard for a NEWMAC contest slated for a 7pm tipoff on Wednesday. After aa conference midweek bye, WPI returns home on Saturday, January 28 to host city foe Clark at 2pm.
