Hoops Halts Five as Wellesley and Women's Soccer Play to 0-0 Draw

Box Score

Wellesley, MA --- Junior goalkeeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, MI) made a career-high 12 saves as Wellesley played to a scoreless tie, 0-0 (2OT), with WPI in NEWMAC women's soccer action Saturday at the Wellesley Fields Complex. Senior Gabriela Hoops (Stonington, CT) only had to make five stops for the Engineers.

The Blue are now 4-8-3 overall (1-5-3 NEWMAC). WPI moves to 11-4-1 (5-2-1 NEWMAC) and is now unbeaten in their last seven contests.

WPI held an 8-0 edge in shots and a 5-0 lead in shots on target during the first half. Reckley made five saves and also got some help from the posts. With just over ten minutes left in the first, Blue defender Rachel Berets (Belmont, MA) put her head on a cross from WPI freshman Ellie Patten (Scarborough, ME, only to see the attempted clear ricochet off the right post before the Blue gained possession of the ball.

Wellesley's best chance to score came on their first shot of the game, and of the second half, when a drive from first year Liz Zhou (McLean, VA) was tipped up and over the bar by Hoops (10-4-1) in the 47th minute. WPI looked to have the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute when Kristen McCrea (Weymouth, MA) broke free from the Blue backline, but McCrea's attempt sliced wide of the right post.

Hoops got a hand on Kendall You Mak's (San Francisco, CA) shot in the 93rd minute to keep the game scoreless in the first overtime. The Engineers also threatened in extra time, but came-up just short when McCrea missed Lauren Kaija (Reading, VT) on a cross in the 99th minute.

WPI ended the contest with a 21-9 advantage in shots, as Reckley (4-8-3) recorded her 15th career shutout for Wellesley.

The Engineers welcome MIT Tuesday at 4pm and Wellesley hosts Babson to close out the regular season at 3pm, also on Tuesday.
