Biddeford, ME --- Junior Spencer Vinson (Los Angeles, CA) and freshman McKenna Finken (Simsbury, CT) were named to the All-Tournament team as WPI made an appearance in the Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament final where it was handed its first loss of the season by Connecticut College, 55-44, Sunday afternoon at University of New England.

The Camels begin the season 2-0 while the Engineers conclude the weekend with a 3-1 ledger.

Junior Sami Ashton (Clinton, CT) led the way with 18 points, four steals and three assists, and junior Dana Muckstadt (Dover, MA) collected a game-best 10 rebounds for Conn College. Senior Margaret Corcoran (Milton, MA) added a dozen points and three blocks.

Vinson totaled eight points and shared team-high honors with nine rebounds and Finken posted nine points, four rebounds and a pair of assists. Freshman Bailey Savage (Charlton, MA) netted a team-best 10 points to go with nine boards by sophomore Maddie Blake (Bedford, NH). Sophomore Caitlin Boermeester (Billerica, MA) doled out two helpers and secured two steals for WPI.

Conn College jumped out to a 4-0 lead before senior Alyssa Paul (Schaghticoke, NY) cut the advantage to one with a 3-pointer just over three minutes into the contest. The Camels then built an eight-point cushion only to see McKenna and sophomore Sara Lyons (Pittsford, NY) cut it to four late in the first quarter.

WPI pulled within one 1:15 into the second following a trifecta by junior Alana Keating (Leominster, MA) and a jumper by Blake. Conn College responded with a 9-0 run to take the 26-16 margin with 3:50 left in the opening half. The gap widened to 15 just over a minute prior to the break.

Following a triple by Corcoran to begin the third, Savage sparked a 17-4 outburst that spilled over into the fourth quarter. WPI, however, was only able to get as close as six with 1:10 to play.

The Engineers had advantages in rebounding (33-29), points from the bench (16-12) and points in the paint (22-20). The Camels scored 19 of the games 27 points off turnovers and 10 of the 17 second chance points.

The Crimson and Gray return to the friendly confines of Harrington Auditorium to host Nichols Tuesday at 7:30pm. Conn College entertains Johnson & Wales at 5pm, also on Tuesday.
