Football Sees Early Advantage Slip Away in Season Finale at MIT

Cambridge, MA --- Senior quarterback Brendan Olexa (Hatboro, PA) threw for 163 yards and a touchdown, but WPI fell, 38-10, on the road to MIT in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup Saturday night. 

WPI closes its season 3-7 and 2-4 in the NEWMAC. MIT finishes 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the NEWMAC.  

Olexa completed 15 of 29 passes, including a 50-yard touchdown strike to junior wide receiver Isaac Frederique (Methuen, MA) with 7:08 left in the first quarter.

The Worcester Engineers ran two more plays than the Cambridge Engineers – 55 to 53 – however, were outgained, 446-209.  

Graduate student Zachary Levy (Bellingham, MA), who ran for a career-high 219 yards a week ago, was held to just 29 yards on nine carries, and senior Brandon Winn (Tewksbury, MA) had 37 all-purpose yards on 11 touches for the Crimson & Gray.  

Junior wide receiver Tommy Emrick (Windham, NH) led the receiving corps with eight catches for 57 yards, and seniors Ethan Farrah (Grafton, MA) and Joe Coutcher (West Greenwich, RI) also got on the stat sheet with 31 yards and 9 yards, respectively. Levy also added a catch for nine yards.  

Senior Blake Bragaw (Niantic, CT) led the Boynton Hillers defense with 10 tackles, including a tackle for a loss, and junior linebacker Harrison Kyriacou (Plainview, NY) made nine stops. Graduate student Lou Duh (Monroe, CT) and senior Derrick Doncaster (Kingston, MA) had six tackles apiece, and Nica Hesel (Downingtown, PA) amassed four tackles. 

MIT scored 38 straight points starting with senior running back George Stultz's (Frederick, MD) 18-yard touchdown scamper with 3:09 left in the first quarter.  Stultz finished with 87 yards on 17 carries.  Sophomore Brady Klein (Washington, IL) ran for 96 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries, and graduate student Chris Mauck (Wellington, FL) threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns on 11-of-15 passing to earn a QB rating of 220.4 for the Cambridge Engineers.  

Senior linebacker Paul Calvetti (Ridgewood, NJ) made a team-high 10 tackles, including one for loss; and classmate Eli Brooks (Los Angeles, CA) had eight stops, including three for loss for MIT.
