Box Score WORCESTER -- Gradate student Jamie Joseph (Cazenovia, NY) netted the only goal of the game in the ninth minute to propel host Clark to a 1-0 victory over WPI in a NEWMAC women's soccer contest played on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars are now 5-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference play while the Engineers slip to 4-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 against NEWMAC foes.
Emily Rooney (Vergennes, VT) found Joseph running up the field and sent in a through ball to Joseph, who beat the WPI goaltender at the 8:40 mark for her fourth goal of the season and 12th of her career.
The Crimson and Gray's best chance of the first half came in the 17th minute but Lexi Carim's (Wallingford, CT) bid was turned away by Clark netminder Anabella White (Manhattan Beach, CA). The hosts saw Siobhan Lounsbury (Southbury, CT) hit the post and Isabella Ramirez (New York, NY) have a great shot but were unable to score in the final 10 minutes of the opening half.
Clark's Mia Advocate (Merrick, NY) had a chance to score but her shot in the 62nd minute was repelled by WPI goalkeeper Kelsey Leach (Tolland, CT). The Engineers last gasp was also its only shot on target in the second half, but Molly Vincent (Douglas, MA) was denied by White with just under two minutes remaining.
Leach made three stops on the day while White was credited with a pair of stops. Clark enjoyed a 12-5 edge in shots and attempted all but one of the match's eight corner kicks. Lilly Proulx (New Boston, NH) was the only Engineer two launch multiple shots on the day.
WPI returns home for another conference matchup against Wheaton at 7pm on Wednesday night, while Clark is on the road at Wellesley for a 4pm start time the same day.
