Box Score

Babson Park, MA --- Senior Morgan Krauss (Belmont, MA) and junior Jordyn Ferrantino (Millis, MA) scored just over seven minutes apart in the first half to help No. 25 Babson College defeat visiting WPI, 2-1, in NEWMAC women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

Babson, which is second in the latest NCAA Region II rankings, has won four straight games to improve to 12-3-1 overall and 6-2-1 in league play. WPI drops to 6-7-3 overall and 2-4-3 in the NEWMAC.

Both teams conclude their regular season on Saturday as Babson travels to Clark at 11am. while WPI visits Coast Guard at 3pm.  The Crimson and Gray can nab the seventh and final seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament with a win over the Bears, who won later Wednesday evening 1-0 over Mount Holyoke.

Graduate student Izzy Lynch (Niskayuna, NY) recorded her fifth assist of the year and senior goalkeeper Morgan Fedosiewich (Ottawa, Ont) made four saves for the Beavers.

Senior Grace Casey (Winchester, MA) had a goal and classmate Annika Keck (Oakland, CA) contributed an assist for the Engineers, who got nine saves from junior Lili Hellerman (Ashland, MA).

Krauss, who had her bid to open the scoring in the 15th minute cleared off the line by sophomore Lexi Carim (Wallingford, CT), gave the Green and White a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. Hellerman raced off her line to take the ball off the foot of Lynch, who was in on a breakaway, but Krauss knocked in the loose ball for her fifth goal of the year.

The Beavers doubled their advantage in the 25th minute when Ferrantino won a foot race to Lynch's low cross from the right and touched it past Hellerman and back inside the right post for her fourth tally of the season. Babson nearly scored again the waning seconds of the opening half when sophomore Elisa Diletizia (Canton, MA) settled a cross from senior Caitlin Trott (North Hampton, NH) but had her chance from inside 10 yards deflect off a WPI defender and out of danger.

The Engineers cut their deficit in half in half thanks to a free kick in the 65th minute. Following a foul along the right sideline, Casey got to Keck's service and flicked a header inside the back post from 10 yards out for her second goal.

WPI's best chance to equalize came in the 83rd minute when sophomore Madisyn Bagby's (Aurora, CO) corner kick skipped through the box to classmate Julia Karman's (Northport, NY), who's shot from inside 10 yards sailed wide of the right post.

The Beavers finished with a 17-7 edge in shots and attempted five of the seven corner kicks in the match.
