WORCESTER -- The WPI men's soccer team ran its streak of not allowing a goal to 483 minutes and 42 seconds as the host Engineers and Roger Williams played to a 0-0 stalemate on a beautiful fall night Tuesday on H. Carr Field at Alumni Stadium. It marks the second consecutive 0-0 draw for the Crimson and Gray and third this season.
WPI, which earlier today made its season debut at third in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Region II rankings, pushes its unbeaten streak to five and moves 4-3-5 on the season. The Hawks are now 2-3-6 overall.
The scoreless first half saw the visiting Hawks with a pair of shots by
Dylan Thomas (Norwalk, CT) and
Luke McCarthy (Tolland, CT) in the opening 85 seconds with the hosts accounting for the rest of the 11 shots, including multiple attempts by
Matthew Biando (Atlanta, GA),
Santino Bazzini (Buenos Aires, Argentina),
Aaron Vaz (Medford, MA) and
Luke Savoie (Mansfield, MA).
The second half saw Roger Williams step up the pressure, outshooting the hosts 10-6 after intermission.
CJ Sousa's (Fall River, MA) bid sailed high in the 56th minute and
Dylan Robbins (Johnston, RI) had three good looks, including a pair of shots following a corner kick in the 76th minute.
Ryan Martin (Douglas, MA) and
Julian Quaresima (East Meadow, NY) split time in net for the third straight game with Martin working the opening half and Quaresima making a save in the final 45 minutes.
Hogan Cain (Nottingham, NH) made seven stops in net for the Hawks.
On the night, WPI held a 17-12 edge in shots and attempted six of the match's nine corners.
Both teams look ahead to Saturday when they each return to conference play. WPI ventures to Norton to square off with Wheaton in a NEWMAC affair at 2pm while Roger Williams plays host to Western New England in a CCC tilt scheduled to kickoff at noon.
