WORCESTER -- In the first home meet of the season, the WPI men's swimming and diving squads came away with a pair of victories in a quad meet with Babson, Brandeis and Coast Guard on Friday evening. 
 
The Engineers defeated Babson 158-139, Brandeis 222-65 and fell to Coast Guard 174-119. WPI left the meet with a pair of first place victories and 51 top-10 finishes. 
 
Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA) was the top individual finisher for the Engineers at the meet earning a pair of first place finishes first in the 100 Back with a time of 54.20. Smith also touched the wall first in the 200 Back, earning the clean sweep, with a time of 1:59.05. Smith also added a fourth place, 52.50 finish in the 100 Fly. 
 
Smith was joined in the top-10 in the 100 Back by Austin Aguirre (Santa Maria, CA) who finished in fifth with a time of 56.83, Andrew Van De Water (Stratham, NH) in ninth with a time of 57.96 and Bora Hurst (Mukwonago, WI) in 10th with a time of 58.52. In the 200 Back, Aguirre again finished fifth with a time of 2:03.19, Aaron Swann (Venice, FL) netted a sixth place, 2:06.59 finish, Hurst took ninth with a time of 2:10.62 and Luke Sperling (Downingtown, MA) rounded out the pack with a 10th place, 2:10.83 finish. 
 
The diving squad of Alex Masiero (Richmond, MA) and Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY) took second and third place respectively in both the 1 Meter and 3 Meter dives. Masiero earned a second place, 199.40 finish to start off the meet in the 1 Meter, later bringing home a 192.65 runner up finish in the 3 Meter. Corrente earned scores of 195.85 and 179.00 at the meet. 
 
Nolan Schlessman (Sudbury, MA) brought home a second and third place finish first taking third in the 200 Free with a time of 1:46.63 and then came in second in the 100 Free with a time of 48.40.
 
Schlessman was joined by Matt Crane (Groton, MA) and Aidan Greenfield (Northport, NY) in the 200 Free as the duo finished fifth-sixth with times of 1:49.26 and 1:49.56. Crane finished fourth in the 100 Free with a time of 48.78 while Sean Tesoro (Reading, MA) took sixth in 49.03, Dean Doubek (Arnold, MD) finished eighth in 50.27 and Van De Water finished ninth in 50.84. 
 
The distance swim was handled by Sam Witscher (Portland, OR) and Swann who finished fourth-fifth with times of 10:31.77 and 10:43.83 respectively in the 1000 Free. Greenfield clocked in with a third place finish in the 500 Free with a time of 4:59.88 while Witscher finished fifth in the race with a time of 5:00.67 and Nikita Zuev (Wallingford, CT) finished seventh with a time of 5:04.78.
 
Owen Krause (Potomac Falls, VA) led the way for the Engineers in the Breaststroke races. First Krause brought home a fourth place, 1:00.28 finish in the 100 Breast followed by a sixth place finish in the 200 Breast in 2:19.61. The Engineers finished 6-7-8-9-10 in the 200 Breast as Eli Budde (Eldersburg, MD) took seventh in 2:21.62, Fraser Milligan (Middlebury, VT) took eighth in 2:22.61, Matthew Segui (Stanton, CA) took ninth in 2:22.82 and Brian Hall (Westford, MA) finished 10th in 2:23.63. 
 
Pralle finished fourth in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:02.51 while Tesoro added a fourth place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 22.09 and Aguirre took home fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.36. 
 
The relay teams saw success on the evening as the 200 Medley Relay squad of Smith, Krause, Pralle, and Schlessman started the meet with a third place, 1:37.28 finish while Schlessman, Tesoro, Pralle and Matt Crane (Groton, MA) combined for a second place finish to close out the meet in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:13.69. 
 
The Engineers are back in action on Friday, Nov. 17 when they take on Southern Connecticut State University in a dual meet at home at 6pm.
