Middletown, CT --- In the final competition of the 2023 half of the season, the WPI men's swimming and diving teams finished with a third place performance at a Quad Meet with Tufts, Williams and Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
The Engineers earned 21 top-10 finishes on the day including four by the diving squads.
Tufts eked out a first place finish with 687 total points, followed by Williams with 676. The Engineers netted 265 points for the third place finish while host-Wesleyan rounded out the pack with 144 points.
Alex Masiero (Richmond, MA) and
Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY) earned fifth and sixth place performances respectively in the 1-Meter Dive as Masiero finished with 189.85 points and Corrente totalled 179.95 points.
In the 3-Meter Dive, Masiero took home sixth with a total of 179.90 points and Corrente took seventh with a 157.00 point total.
The relay teams combined for a sixth and a pair of seventh place finishes.
Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA),
Owen Krause (Potomac Falls, VA),
Andrew Van De Water (Stratham, NH) and
Matt Crane (Groton, MA) started the day off with a seventh place, 1:36.11 finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Midway through the meet, Crane,
Austin Aguirre (Santa Maria, CA),
Aidan Greenfield (Northport, NY) and
Sean Tesoro (Reading, MA) joined together for a sixth place, 1:28.09 finish in the 200 Free Relay while the foursome of Aguirre, Tesoro, Greenfield and Crane revisited the pool for a seventh place, 3:13.46 finish in the 400 Free Relay to close out the meet.
Daniel Cory (Reading, MA) nabbed a 10th place finish in the distance event, the 500 Free, with a time of 5:01.04 while Krause followed that up with an eighth place finish in the 50 Breast in a time of 26.88.
Smith brought home a sixth place, 22.93 finish in the 50 Fly while
Aaron Swann (Venice, FL) touched the wall in 10th place in the 50 Back with a time of 25.62.
Jack Brazer (Bolton, MA) hopped into the pool to come away with a ninth place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 21.78 and then a ninth place time in the 100 Fly in 53.58.
Smith earned another top-10 finish with a ninth place, 4:14.57 in the 400 IM while
Fraser Milligan followed right behind in 11th place with a 4:27.32 time. Krause also finished in ninth, but in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:00.39.
Jacob Antonovich (Fairfax, VT), Swann and
Luke Sperling (Downingtown, PA) went eighth, ninth and 10th in the 200 Back with times of 2:02.15, 2:02.87 and 2:08.83 respectively. Brazer brought home ninth in the 100 Free with a time of 48.51 while Krause earned 10th in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:13.59 and Smith clocked in at 1:55.12 in the 200 Fly to bring home an eighth place finish.
The Engineers will return to the pool in the new year when they start the 2024 competition off at Wheaton on Wednesday, January 17 at 6pm.
