Norton, MA --- Despite19 top-three finishes, including a pair of first place finishes from
Leah Kolb (Canton, MI) and
Rachel Tsang (Acton, MA), the WPI women's swimming and diving teams fell to Wheaton on Wednesday night at the Balfour Natatorium.
The Engineers (4-6) finished with 93 points to Wheaton's (8-2) 198.
The meet kicked off with a third place 200 Medley Relay finish with Kolb,
Elinor Ross (Brandon, VT), Tsang and
Katrina Waite (Falmouth, ME) finishing in 1:54.67 and wrapped up with a third place 400 Free Relay finish as
Lada DiMascolo (Puyallup, WA),
Kaitlyn Grove (Cheshire, CT),
Kristina MacLeod (Jackson Hole, WY) and
Anna Callaghan (Yorktown Heights, NY) combined for a 3:54.23 finish.
Individually,
Kylie Herbstzuber (Medfield, MA) and DiMascolo finished 2-3 in the 1000 Free, the first solo event of the meet. Herbstzuber netted an 11:11.06 finish while Dimascolo touched the wall in 11:23.76.
MacLeod ended the 200 Free with a third place finish in 2:05.49 followed by Kolb's 50 Back victory as she clocked in with a time of 28.62.
Audrey Dino (St. Louis, MO) added a third place finish in the event with a time of 28.94.
Ross netted a second place finish in 33:35 in the 50 Breast while Kolb followed up with a second place finish of her own in the 50 Free in 25.78.
Tsang added a second place finish in the 100 Back with a time of 1:01.38 while Dino tacked on a third place, 1:03.59 finish in the same event. Dimascolo picked up another top-3 finish with a third place time of 1:13.61 in the 100 Breast while the distance duo of Herbstzuber and
Caitlyn Swartz (Pepperall, MA) finished 2-3 in the 500 Free with times of 5:36.18 and 5:57.95 respectively.
Tsang netted her first place finish in the 50 Fly with a time of 27.83 while Grove added a third place finish in 29.20 and Dino wrapped up the individual raced with a second place finish in the 200 IM in a time of 2:22.41.
On the diving side of things,
Katrina Yurista (Laramie, WY) finished in second in both the 1 and 3-Meter Dives with scores of 237.75 and 244.50 respectively.
The swimming and diving squad is back in action on Saturday, January 20th with its final dual meet of the season when the Engineers head to Colby for a head-to-head matchup with the Mules. The meet will kick off at 2pm.
