Smith Wins Twice, Doubek Once for Men’s Swimming and Diving at Colby

Waterville, ME --- Three first place finishes, and 20 top-3 performances were not enough as the WPI men's swimming and diving teams fell to Colby College on Saturday afternoon in the final dual meet of the 2023-24 season.

The Engineers (5-5) finished with 113 points to Colby's (4-2) 180. 
 
Samuel Witscher (Portland, OR) kicked things off with a third place finish in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:25.15 followed by a 2-3 finish from Sean Tesoro (Reading, MA) and Matt Crane (Groton, MA) in the 200 Free with times of 1:45.24 and 1:47.82 respectively. 
 
Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA) brought home a third place finish in the 100 Back with a time of 52.87 followed by another 2-3 finish from Owen Krause (Potomac Falls, VA) and Austin Aguirre (Santa Maria, CA) in the 100 Breast with 1:00.10 and 1:00.23 finishes. 
 
Lucas Pralle (Wayland, MA) earned a third place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:57.86 with Tesoro earning a third place finish in the 50 Free, clocking in with a time of 21.96. 
 
Dean Doubek (Arnold, MD) brought home the team's first victory of the day with a 47.73 finish in the 100 Free while Aguirre followed up with a third place, 200 Back finish in 2:00.45. 
 
Krause earned another finish in the 200 Breast with a third place time of 2:15.82 while Nikita Zuev (Wallingford, CT) clocked in third in 5:04.91 in the 500 Free. The 100 Fly saw a 2-3 finish from Smith and Pralle with times of 51.86 and 53.12 respectively. 
 
The individual races wrapped up with a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 IM with Smith, Aguirre and Matthew Segui (Stanton, CA) bringing home times of 1:57.43, 1:59.18 and 2:04.05 respectively. 
 
The diving duo of Alex Masiero (Richmond, MA) and Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY) finished 3-4 in both the 1 and 3-Meter Dives. Masiero ended up with both third place finishes with scores of 209.92 and 201.97 respectively while Corrente took fourth with scores of 205.80 and 189.82. 
 
The 200 Medley Relay team of Smith, Krause, Zuev and Crane took home fourth place to start the event with a time of 1:38.13 while the 200 Free Relay squad of Jack Brazer (Bolton, MA), Doubek, Crane and Tesoro rounded out the competition with a first place, 1:26.85 finish. 
 
The swimming and diving teams are back in action with their final tune up before the NEWMAC Championships when they head to the Menck Invitational, a two day Invite from Friday, Jan. 26 to Saturday, Jan. 27 at Roger Williams on Friday and at WPI on Saturday.
