Doubek, Tesoro, Smith Victorious for Men’s Swimming and Diving at Division II Southern Connecticut

New Haven, CT --- The WPI Men's Swimming and Diving Team (3-3) were defeated in a close duel with the Southern Connecticut Owls losing 139-102.
 
The men capped off the meet with a win in the 200 free relay with the team of Dean Doubek (Arnold, MD), Sean Tesoro (Reading, MA), Gavin McCullough (Geneva, IL) and Andrew Van De Water (Stratham, NH) hitting the wall in 1:26.76. Both Doubek and Tesoro were individual event winners as was Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA).
 
Doubek, a sophomore, started the meet anchoring the men's 400 Medley relay, where he was joined by Van De Water, Nolan Schlessman (Sudbury, MA) and Smith. The quartet finished in a time of 3:37.11, which was good for second place. The WPI B relay was just behind, with all the underclassmen relay of Angad Ahluwalia (Attleboro, MA), Ryan Ng (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ), Lucas Pralle (Wayland, MA) and Angelo Reade (Newburgh, NY) taking 3rd in a time of 3:43.46. 
 
Individually, Doubek earned top honors in the 50 free recording a time of 21.92. Tesoro, a fellow sophomore, claimed the victory in the 100 free later in the meet, as he recorded a time of 47.50, winning comfortably by 0.80. Earlier in the meet, the sophomore, recorded a mark of 1:46.49 in the 200 free, which was good for second place, finishing ahead of teammate Pralle, who was also under 1:50, as the sophomore posted a result of 1:49.13, which was just 0.03 ahead of the fourth-place finisher.
 
Pralle, later in the meet, swam to one spot better as he was runner-up in the 100 fly, with his time of 53.44 being just 0.05 behind of the third-place finisher. Pralle was only behind his teammate, Smith, who earned top honors with a time of 51.29. Two events later, Smith was the top WPI finisher as he placed 3rd in the 100 back, stopping the clock in 55.91. 
 
WPI was touched out in a few races as well, as Aidan Greenfield, a senior from Northport NY, finished runner-up in the 500 as he hit the clock in 5:00.03. He also put in a strong turn in the 1000 free, where he was WPI's top finisher (3rd) with his result of 10:25.82.
 
WPI also had a strong showing on the springboards as first-year Thomas Fitzgerald (East Longmeadow, MA) and Val Corrente (East Stauket, NY) placed third and fourth respectively on both the 1 and 3 meter boards with Fitzgerald scoring 213.98 and 182.03 points and Corrente earning 160.20 and 166.80 points. 
 
The Engineers are next in the pool on the 23rd of November, as they take on the NESCAC trio of Trinity, Tufts and Williams.
