WORCESTER -- The Women's Swimming and Diving Team finished up their slate of fall 2024 dual meets as the Engineers played host to Trinity (171-122), Tufts (240-54) and Williams (244-50) in a pre-Thanksgiving meet. The Engineers despite strong performances in the pool and on the board fell to the other three teams.
Leading the way for the team were
Lada DiMascolo (Puyallup, WA) and
Sarah Kang (Richmond, VA) as each earned multiple top 10 finishes. DiMascolo, a senior, took fifth place in the 1000 free, swimming their way to a time of 11:12.31. They posted a new personal best in the 400 IM at the end of the meet, as the Washington native posted a new personal best of 4:45.33, which was good for fifth overall. DiMascolo also added a strong contribution on the 200 Medley Relay, where they anchored the team to a seventhplace finish and season best time of 1:50.11.
Joining them on that relay were
Audrey Dino (St. Louis, MO),
Milena Whitney (Bedford, NH) and Kang. Dino had an impressive meet herself, as the senior lead-off in a new personal best of 28.07. She continued to shine as the school's top performer in the 200 free, placing 11th overall in a time of 2:02.31. Dino also swam a season's best in the 200 back, where her 2:13.55 was the second fastest on the team behind only Kang.
Kang, in addition to swimming fly on the Medley Relay, was the school's top finisher in her three events. In the 200 backstroke, Kang swam a 2:08.45 which was good for sixth overall, equaling her position, just a few events later in the 100 fly, where she finished with a result of 59.09. Earlier in the meet, the first year placed tenth in the 100 back, hitting the wall in 1:00.66, with fellow first-year
Maria Korneva (Shrewsbury, MA) not far behind with her time of 1:01.15.
Whitney, the last member of that medley relay team, also put in strong performances as she finished among the top 10 in both of the breaststroke events, stopping the clock in 1:10.02, which was good for ninth overall and 2:36.30 in the 200 which was also good for ninth, just one spot ahead of teammate,
Niamh O'Sullivan (Basking Ridge, NJ) who hit the wall in a time of 2:44.98.
Top ten finishes were not contained to just the swimming pool however, as junior diver,
Katrina Yurista (Laramie, WY), placed 7th on the 1-meter board, scoring 2:04.05 points. On the higher, 3m, discipline, the 2024 NCAA Regional qualifier placed fifth earning a score of 216.45.
