Swimming and Diving Maintains Second Place on Day Two at the Gompei Invitational

WORCESTER -- Day two action at WPI's Gompei Invitational was highlighted by 10 top-ten finishes for the WPI men's and women's swimming and diving teams.
 
The three-day event at the Sports and Recreation Center sees Bryant maintain its overall lead with 4,990.5 combined points, while the Engineers are in second with 3,573.5 points. Bentley is in third with 2496.5 points, with Williams (2,449) and Springfield (2,262.5) rounding out the top five. Sacred Heart (1,797.5), Brandeis University (1,545), Central Connecticut State (902.5), Merrimack College (677), and Clark (401) wrapped up the field.
 
To open up the WPI action on day two, the women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Leah Kolb (Canton, MI), Lada DiMascolo (Puyallup, WA), Audrey Dino (St. Louis, MO), Kristina MacLeod (Jackson Hole, WY) nabbed a top-10 finish, placing ninth with a time of 1:40.23.

In the men's 200-yard freestyle relay, the 'A' team of Dean Doubek (Arnold, MD), Nolan Schlessman (Sudbury, MA), Andrew Van De Water (Stratham, NH), and Sean Tesoro (Reading, MA) earned a podium finish with a time of 1:24.87, taking third place.

Jake Thomas (Wenham, MA) secured a ninth-place finish in the men's 400-yard IM, clocking in at 4:12.45.

In the men's 100-yard Backstroke, Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA) took second place with a time of 50.34, while teammates Dean Doubek (Arnold, MD) and Aidan Greenfield (Northport, NY) finished fifth and tenth with times of 51.12 and 52.34, respectively.

The Men's 50-yard Butterfly saw three Engineers in the top 10, led by Tesoro who finished sixth with a time of 23.12. Doubek placed eighth in 23.23, and Gavin McCullough (Geneva, IL) came in ninth with a time of 23.34.

Rounding out the top-10 finishes for the Engineers, Van De Water led WPI in the Men's 50-yard Backstroke, finishing fourth in 23.45. Angad Ahluwalia (Attleboro, MA) followed in fifth with a time of 23.56, and Jacob Antonovich (Fairfax, VT) rounded out the top 10 with an eighth-place finish in 23.89.
 
Five WPI student-athletes also grabbed wins in "B" finals on day two. Dimascolo went 4:42.40 in the women's 400-yard IM, Sarah Kang (Richmond, VA) recorded a 58.81 in the women's 100-yard backstroke, Maria Korneva (Boylston, MA) finished in 28.62 in the women's 50-yard backstroke, Lucas Pralle (Wayland, MA) went 24.98 in the men's 50-yard backstroke, and Milena Whitney (Bedford, NH) clocked in at 1:07.33 in the women's 100-yard breaststroke.

The Gompei Invitational concludes tomorrow with three blocks on the schedule. The morning session will begin at 9am, followed by the diving competition, and then the finals will start at 5:30pm.
