Boston, MA --- The WPI men's track and field squad made its 2024-25 season debut early Saturday afternoon as a pair of 800 meter runners competed in Boston University's Colyear-Danville Season Opener held at the BU Track & Tennis Center.

The duo of
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) and
Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) both competed in the middle heat of the three 800 meter races. Wyche set the pace early and led the first half of the race before being passed by
Kaleb Colson of Division I Maine in the third 200 meters. Colson, lead was short-lived as Amherst's
Ben Davis grab the lead around the 500 meter mark and went on to win in a time of 1:52.92. Wyche battled back to get into second and then held off a late charge from Skerry. Wyche was able to finish in second in a time of 1:54.58 while Skerry was just 0.06 seconds behind in 1:54.64. Colson finished fourth in a time of 1:55.36.

Jonah Hoey from the Adidas/Fast 8 Track Club ran the fastest time of the day, winning heat one in a time of 1:48.25.Â
Olivier Desmeules of Division I Penn State was the highest placing college runner, finishing second with a time of 1:48.38. Maine's
Matt Firlings claimed heat three in a time of 1:58.52.

The full Crimson and Gray men's and women's teams will next be in action late next month as WPI begins the 2025 portion of its schedule on Saturday, January 25th in the Lyons Invitational hosted by Wheaton. Action begins at 11am.
