La Crosse, WI --- Senior
Alex Cole (Weymouth, MA) took center stage for WPI men's track and field Friday evening as the senior competed in the 100 meter dash preliminaries on the second day of the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by University of Wisconsin–La Crosse at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
The reigning NEWMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Year turned in a time of 10.58 seconds to place sixth in his heat and 16th overall, securing the Crimson and Gray its second All-America honor in as many days at the three-day championship. The 16th-place finish earned Cole second team All-America accolades, which are bestowed by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association to competitors placing ninth through 16th nationally.
It marked the second career All-America citation for Cole, who was a member of WPI's 4x100 relay team that placed 12th at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
On Thursday,
Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) finished 13th in the 1,500 meters to earn second team All-America honors for the Engineers. Friday, the senior became just the sixth WPI student-athlete to receive the NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete Award, presented to the student-athlete competing at a championship finals site with the highest cumulative grade-point average. Mosher, who graduated last weekend with a civil engineering degree and a perfect 4.00 GPA, also became just the second athlete in school history to compete in the NCAA Cross Country, Indoor Track and Field and Outdoor Track and Field Championships during the same academic year.
Formerly known as the Elite 89 and 90 Award, other WPI student-athletes to receive the honor include
Tim Petri (Men's Swimming and Diving) in 2017,
Sarah St. Pierre (Women's Rowing) in 2019, and
Lindsay Ambrosino (Softball),
Ashley Schulinger (Women's Rowing) and
Katherine Pawlak (Women's Track and Field), all during the same weekend in 2022.
Gavin Fleck (Bend, OR) will look to deliver a third All-America performance at the meet for the Boynton Hillers and the fifth All-America honor of his career Saturday in the pole vault. Competition is slated to begin at 1pm Eastern time.
