David Reynolds
Lowell, MA --- Graduate student David Reynolds (Andover, NH) set a national mark and broke a school record to highlight a two-meet weekend for the WPI men's track and field team. On Friday, the Engineers competed at the Sean Collier Distance Invitational at MIT and on Friday and Saturday, the team was at UMass Lowell's George Davis Invitational.

At MIT on Friday, Reynolds lowered his own 10k school record by six seconds, running a time of 29:50.27. The mark ranks him 17th in the country. Less than 15 hours later, Reynolds broke the unofficial NCAA Division III record in the rare two-mile event. He went 9:26.25 to take second overall, by far the top Division III runner in the event.

Also competing at MIT on Friday, senior Avinash Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) raced to a season-best in the 1500m, going 3:58.27 to place 17th overall.

At UMass Lowell, sophomore Gavin Fleck (Bend, OR) took the victory in the pole vault while junior William Pagliarulo (Bedford, NH) and senior Matt Gadziala (Clinton, NY) also grabbed top 10 finishes. Fleck cleared 4.80m to outpace the field, while Pagliarulo was seventh (4.40m) and Gadziala was 10th (4.25m), good enough to earn a postseason berth.

In the javelin, the Engineers had three in the top 10, led by a huge personal best throw from junior Ben Furman (Groton, MA) in fourth place. Furman's best toss went 57.50m, a season-best effort and also the 23rd-best mark in the nation this season. Junior Michael Neff (West Hartford, CT) went 54.26m to take eighth place, while junior Lucas Anthony (Lincoln, MA) was 10th with a 53.62m throw.

Sophomore Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) and sophomore Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) both punched their tickets to the New England Division III Championships in the 800m event. Mosher was 13th in a time of 1:55.23, while Skerry was 15th in 1:55.86.

Freshman Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) had three strong events at the meet, led by an eighth-place finish in the discus where he threw 41.47m. He was 10th in the hammer with a personal best toss of 41.18m, while he was 11th in shot put with a 12.55m effort.

Sophomore Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) and junior Matthew Catuccio (Trumbull, CT) each took top five placements in the high jump. Each went 1.88m, with Gerlach taking third and Catuccio finishing fifth.

Junior Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH) and senior Jarrett Gulden (Walpole, ME) each nabbed top 10 finishes in the 5k. Gulden was ninth in 15:33.64 with Fisher finishing in 15:36.42 to take 10th.

To close out the meet, the 4x400m relay team of freshman Koray Boybeyi (Reston, VA), sophomore Anthony Minichiello (Burlington, MA), freshman Gabriel D'Amour (Somers, CT), and Mosher combined for a third-place finish in a time of 3:26.96.

The Engineers will now turn their attention to the 2024 NEWMAC Track and Field Championships. The two-day event will take place Friday and Saturday at Springfield.
