NEW ORLEANS --- The WPI men's and women's track & field programs collected U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honors, while seven Engineers earned individual All-Academic accolades, as announced by the organization on Monday.
 
To earn All-Academic Team recognition, a program must post a cumulative team grade-point average of at least 3.10 on a 4.0 scale among all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility.
 
Under the direction of Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Brian Chabot and Head Track & Field Coach Emily Dippel, the Crimson and Gray women registered a 3.71 team GPA, tied for 16th among the 213 NCAA Division III women's programs honored. The men recorded a 3.61 GPA, also tied for 16th among the 165 Division III men's programs recognized.
 
Individually, senior Gavin Fleck (Bend, OR) earned his fourth career USTFCCCA All-Academic honor. Junior Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA) and senior Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) each returned to the list for the second consecutive year.
 
WPI welcomed four first-time honorees: seniors Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) and Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA), freshman Brian Stampoulos (Hillsboro, NJ) and senior Bethany Brown (Allentown, PA).
 
The six men's All-Academic honorees represented five academic disciplines. Fleck and Skerry study mechanical engineering, Gerlach majors in computer science, Manteria studies chemical engineering, Mosher majors in civil engineering and Stampoulos studies environmental engineering. Brown, WPI's women's All-Academic selection, majors in biomedical engineering.
 
To qualify for individual recognition, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale through the most recently completed grading period and must have finished the season among the top 50 individuals on the TFRRS descending-order lists. Student-athletes outside the top 50 who participated in the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor Track & Field Championships are also eligible. Graduate students must include all undergraduate and graduate coursework in their cumulative GPA.
