Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bastida-Andreeu, Montabana Each Tally Twice to Get Men's Soccer Back into the Win Column

WORCESTER -- Mike Montabana (Jamison, PA), Fabio Bastida-Andreeu (Logroño, Spain) and Aaron Vaz (Medford, MA) combined for 13 points as the WPI men's soccer team defeated visiting Wentworth 6-0 in a non-conference men's soccer contest played Tuesday evening on H. Carr Field at Alumni Stadium.

WPI, which is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Top 25 and is third in the most recent Region II rankings, moves to 6-2-1 on the season.  The Leopards see their three-match winning streak and five-game (3-0-2) unbeaten run snapped and fall to 4-2-3 overall.

The hosts dented the scoreboard a quarter hour in when Vaz headed a ball across the box that was knocked home by Bastida-Andreeu at 15:09.   Nearly 10 minutes later WPI doubled its lead as Mike Montabana led Vaz to space up the right side and the graduate student deposited his third goal of the season and 15th of his career at 24:58. The Crimson and Gray took a 3-0 edge into intermission on an own goal following a Wentworth misplay in the back with 1:56 remaining before halftime.

Bastida-Andreeu and Vaz connected a second time at 59:21 with Bastida-Andreeu notching his second goal of the match and fourth of 2024.  Montabana took center stage the rest of the way, tallying his first two career goals in the final 15 minutes, the first unassisted at 75:57 and the second off an assist by Tristan Seguin (East Lyme, CT) for the rookie's first career point with 6:32 to go in the match.

Julian Quaresima (East Meadow, NY) and Savio Ketnouvoung (Paxton, MA) split the shutout in net for the Engineers.  Quaresima earned the win making one save in the first 45 minutes while Ketnouvoung repelled a pair of shots in the second half.

Adrian Sanchez (Chorrera, Panama) tallied a career-best 10 stops for the visitors.

WPI is on the road on Saturday, facing Emerson in a NEWMAC matchup starting at 1pm. Wentworth ventures to Nichols on Saturday for a noon Conference of New England contest.
