Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Three Nets Goals as Men's Soccer Outshines UMass Boston 3-0

WORCESTER -- Three different WPI players notched goals and goalkeeper Julian Quaresima (East Meadow, NY) and the Engineer defense registered a clean sheet as the Crimson and Gray completed a two-game season-opening homestand with its second straight victory, a 3-0 triumph over UMass Boston on Tuesday afternoon.

The win pushes WPI record to 2-0 on the season while the Beacons slip to 1-1 in 2024.

The hosts netted the first stanza's only marker in the 17th minute.  After a throw in by Mason Perham (Hampden, MA), the ball deflected off a defender, leading to a Codey Battista (Northbridge, MA) goal, his first of the season at 16:15.  The opening 45 minutes featured WPI attempting five of the half's eight shots while the guests held a narrow 2-1 edge in corners.

The Beacons had a good scoring bid in the opening five minute after intermission as a ball got behind Quaresima but Evan Haas (Concord, NH) cleared the ball out of danger.  Just a few minutes later, Eli Marden (Shelburne, MA) delivered a ball from the end line towards the center of the goal where it was headed in by Aaron Vaz (Medford, MA) at 52:59 for his first goal of the season and 13th of his career.

WPI closed out scoring in the 63rd minute when Brady Burch (South Deerfield, MA) completed a long pass to Fabio Bastida-Andreeu (Logroño Spain), who accepted the pass and dribbled, and tapped the ball into the back the net for his first collegiate goal at 62:30.

UMass Boston's best chance arguably came in the waning seconds of the contest when a long shot from Amir Lahkiky (Melrose, MA) forced a diving save from Quaresima.

For the game, the Engineers outshot the Beacons 13-8, while UMass Boston had an advantage in corner kicks, 6-2.

Quaresima grabbed four saves for the Engineers. Three different goalkeepers for UMass Boston each registered a save for the visitors.  JJ Devine (Halifax, MA) played the first half, Andy Ramirez (Waltham, MA) came in to start the second half and Victor Reyes (La Union, El Salvador) worked the final 13 minutes in between the pipes.

WPI heads to New York this weekend for its first two road matches of the season.  The Crimson and Gray take on RPI on Saturday in Troy before tangling with Skidmore in Saratoga Springs on Sunday.  Both matches kickoff at 2pm.  UMass Boston will host Plattsburgh State in their home opener this Saturday at 11am.
