Georgia Adams (Andover, MA) registered a goal and an assist to propel nationally ranked Wesleyan to a 5-1 road victory over WPI in a non-conference field hockey matchup played Wednesday evening on H. Carr Field at Alumni Stadium.

With the result, the Engineers slip to 0-2 in 2024 while Wesleyan, #22 in the preseason Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Top 25 opens the season with a 1-0 mark.

The Cardinals came out flying, attempting all four shots in the first quarter and were rewarded for their efforts with a penalty stroke midway through the frame.Â
Kenzie Kelly (Needham, MA) got the guests on the board when she knocked home the stroke at 5:32.

Wesleyan extended its advantage to 2-0 with a barrage of activity in the middle portion of the second quarter. The Cardinals capped a span of less than five minutes that featured five shots and a pair of penalty corners with
Georgia Adams (Andover, MA) knocking home a feed from
Annabel Cincotta (Lexington, MA) at 24:30.

The visitors kept the pressure on to start the second half. Cincotta dented the scoring column at 35:59 when she notched an unassisted tally.  WPI cashed in on its first penalty corner of the game less than three minutes later and made it a successful one when
Eve Martineau (Greene, ME) took
Lauren Coutu' s (Baldwinville, MA) insertion at the top of the arc and sent a laser through traffic that found its way into the back of the net at 38:39.

Wesleyan closed out the scoring with a pair of goals in the fourth quarter with Adams having a stick in both. The junior set up a shot for
Kenzie Mauro (Scarsdale, NY) at 49:42 then 56 seconds later was on the receiving end of a feed by
Ava Galdenzi (North Branford, CT) at 50:38.

Ella Moreau (Huntington, MA) tallied six saves in net for WPI over the first 50:38 in net before
Myles Lakin (Reading, MA) played the final 9:22. Â Martineau also aided the effort with a third quarter defensive save.Â
Audrey Pace (Los Gatos, CA) was credited with one stop for Wesleyan before making way for
Audrey Vadnal (Shaker Heights, OH) over the last 6:02.

Wesleyan held a 20-3 advantage in shots and held 9-4 edge in penalty corners.

WPI hits the road for the first time this season, venturing to Beverly on Saturday to face Endicott at 1pm. Wesleyan closes out its season-opening two-game road Saturday at noon at Vassar (NY).
