Junior
Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA) got the Engineers off to a hot start as he led the 400 medley relay off. Smith combining with senior
Jack Duryea (Sag Harbor, NY), and sophomores
Lucas Pralle (Wayland, MA) and
Sean Tesoro (Reading, MA) claimed 2nd place in a time of 3:32.16.
2nd place was a familiar spot for many of the relay's performers as they were just outperformed in their individual races. Smith was WPIs highest placed finished in the 200 fly (3rd – 1:58.99), a new season best, as well the school's top finisher in both the 200 back and 100 fly. He finished 2nd in both recording marks of 1:58.77 and 51.50, respectively.
Tesoro also finished 2nd in two events as well. He was the school's top finisher in the 200 free, finishing in 1:47.55 and also claimed second in the 50 free recording a result of 21.92.
Sophomore
Andrew Van De Water (Stratham, NH) was WPI's next closest finisher behind Tesoro in the 200 free (4th -1:49.17) as well as the next fastest in the 200 back where he placed 3rd in a time of 2:02.50.
The 200 back was one of a few events where the Engineers claimed the 2nd through 4th spots.
Fraser Milligan (Middlebury, VT) led the charge in the 1000 and
Bora Hurst (West Palm Beach, FL) in the 200 breast as the pair recorded times of 10:25.37 and 2:18.05 respectively.
First year
Tom Fitzgerald (Longmeadow, MA) and senior
Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY) added a pair of podium finishes each as Fitzgerald scored 207.90 and 228.38 respectively on the 3- and 1-meter boards to place 2nd. Corrente finished 3rd in both of the events scoring 187.65 and 185.85 points respectively.
The Engineers return to the pool and boards against conference rival Wheaton, this coming Wednesday, the 22nd, at home.
