Waterville, ME --- WPI's Women's Swimming and Diving team faced tough competition on the road on Saturday as the Engineers fell to the Colby Mules, 181-99.
Fresh off of a school record last Tuesday,
Katrina Yurista (Laramie, WY) continued to impress upon the diving boards, sweeping both the 1 and 3 meter boards. On the smaller of the two, the junior scored 217.80, and on the other, she scored 199.58.
Fellow Mountain Time native,
Kate Creusere (Las Cruces, NM) had a great meet, as the first year finished as WPI's highest placed finisher in both the 1000 and 500 free. In the longer of the two, Creusere placed 3rd with a time of 11:14.72, which stands not only as a season best but as a new personal best. Her 500 result also saw her as WPIs top finisher. Clocking in at a time of 5:26.25, while not a personal best, the result was still a season best of the first year and earned her a 2nd place finish in the event.
Fellow first year,
Sarah Kang (Richmond, VA) and senior
Kristina MacLeod (Jackson, WY) helped WPI to a 3rd place finish in the 400 Medley relay as the pair closed what was over a three second gap to finish behind Colby's B relay by just over a second. Kang, in addition to her relay performance earned a hypothetical trip to the podium in all of her individual events. Kang placed 2nd in the 100 back, recording a time of 59.82, ahead of teammate
Leah Kolb (Canton, MI), who on their birthday placed 5th.
Kang ended the meet with a 3rd place finish in the 100 fly (59.63), but sandwiched between the two swims, the Virginia native claimed victory in the 200 back, as she was the only swimmer under the 2:12 barrier as she hit the wall in 2:09.98.
The WPI Engineers return to competition with a mid week meet against NEWMAC rival Wheaton, this coming Wednesday at 6pm.
