Women’s Swimming and Diving Competes in Day One of the Menck Invitational

Bristol, RI --- The WPI Women's Swimming and Diving team kicked off the Menck Invite with a strong performance in the preliminary session. Split over two days, with the first session held at Roger Williams, the Menck Invite is named in honor of Robert Menck, a USA and Collegiate Swim Official who work with WPI for numerous years.

The prelims session was sprint heavy with the 50s and 100s of stroke being contested along with the 200 free, 100 IM and three relays. The Engineers got things off to a quick start as they advanced all six of their 400 free relays into tomorrow's final, with the A and B relays taking 2nd (3:45.29) and 3rd (3:52.60) respectively.

The 200 free relay saw a similar result as all six relays advanced with WPI's A relay comprised of senior Leah Kolb (Canton, MI),first year, Veronica Finucane-Tuccio (Excelsior, MN) sophomore Katrina Waite (Falmouth, ME) and senior Kristina MacLeod (Jackson, WY) placing 2nd in a time of 1:43.94.

A similar story played out in the last event of the day as WPI advanced all of their relays to tomorrow's final with the A relay of senior Audrey Dino (St. Louis, MO) first years Milena Whitney (Bedford, NH) and Sarah Kang (Richmond, VA) and MacLeod taking 2nd place in a time of 1:55.22.

Individually, WPI also put up some strong performances with first year Finucane-Tuccio claiming the middle lane in tomorrow's final in multiple events.  After placing 6th in the 100 free and 7th in the 50 fly, the Minnesota native took top honors in the 100 fly (1:03.26) and in the 200 free (2:03.63).

Also posting the fastest times in their respective events this session were DiMascolo, who led a 1-3-5 finish in the 100 IM (1:02.18), with Kang and Dino not far behind.

While out-touched in several events, WPI depth will pay out dividends tomorrow. The team lead by MacLeod and Kang  advanced 6 into the final of the 100 free, occupying 3 of the top 4 spots. The 50 breaststroke sees a similar story as the Engineers advanced 5, and take up 4 of the top 5 seeds.

Action for tomorrow final session kicks off at 1pm. WPI will be recognizing their senior class  before the meet starts. All friends family and fans are invited to attend the meet.
