Fisher Wins as Women’s Track and Field Posts 13 Top Five Finishes at Lyons Invitational

Norton, MA -- The WPI women's track and field team had a strong showing at the Lyons Invitational at Wheaton College on Saturday. Overall, the Engineers recorded 13 top five finishes at the event, with junior Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA) notching a victory for the Crimson and Gray.
 
Fisher claimed the 60m hurdles title with a time of 9.56 seconds, good enough to qualify her to the 2025 New England Division III Championships. She also recorded a sixth-place finish in the triple jump (10.08m) and helped the 4x200m relay team to a fourth-place effort.
 
Freshman Rayna Thompson (Brentwood, NH) got her collegiate career off to a strong start with a pair of third place finishes. In the 60m-dash she recorded a time of 7.97m, the fifth-best time in WPI history and a postseason qualifying mark. Thompson also took third in the 200m (26.72) and was part of the mixed 4x400m relay team that also finished third.
 
Sophomore Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) also had a solid opener to the 2025 portion of the season. She nabbed a fifth-place finish in the 800m (2:25.77), hitting a New England Division III qualifying time in the process.
 
Senior Cassie Zimmerman (East Hampton, CT) and freshman Caetlyn Embree (Sherborn, CT) each collected a pair of top-five performances. Zimmerman finished second in the high jump with a leap of 1.51m and third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.47m, while Embree secured second in the 600m (1:52.32) and added a tie for fifth in the high jump with a jump of 1.41m.
 
Additional top-five finishes included sophomore Charly Painter (Littleton, MA) in the pole vault, placing fifth with a mark of 2.95m, and senior Olivia Spielberger (Hingham, MA) in the triple jump (fourth, 10.43m) and long jump (seventh, 4.46m).
 
In the 5000m, senior Elie Bowman (Oakdale, CT) and junior Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH) both had top-five placements. Bowman was third in 19:22.24 and Reynolds took fourth in 19:23.53.
 
Rounding out the individual highlights, senior Olivia Spielberger (Hingham, MA) placed fourth in the triple jump at 10.43m, junior Lauren Coutu (Baldwinville, MA) claimed fifth in the high jump at 1.41m, and sophomore Charly Painter (Littleton, MA) took fifth in the pole vault at 2.95m.

In the relays, Fronc and Thompson teamed up with men's runners, sophomore Gabriel D'Amour (Somers, CT) and junior Anthony Minichiello (Burlington, MA), to race to a third-place finish in the mixed 4x400m in 3:54.98. In the 4x200m relay, junior Lydia Beers (Norfolk, CT), Fisher, junior Kathryn Butziger (East Greenwich, RI) and senior Lauren Mitcheson (West Bridgewater, MA) placed fourth overall in a time of 1:55.82.
 
The Engineers will return to Norton next weekend to compete in the Wheaton Invitational, beginning at 10am.
