Norton, MA --- Led by wins from junior
Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH) and freshman
Catherine Daly (Groton, MA) the WPI women's indoor track and field team took fourth place at the Wheaton Invitational on Saturday in Norton.
Reynolds and Daly captured a pair of long-distance events to bolster the Engineers' effort at the meet. Reynolds won the 3000, going a personal-best 10:49.3 to win it, while Daly topped the field in the 1000 in a time of 3:14.6.
WPI finished the meet with 60 team points. Bryant claimed the top spot with 116 points, followed by Springfield in second place with 86 points, and Wheaton in third with 71 points. Brandeis finished fifth with 42 points, while UMass Dartmouth (34) and Bridgewater State (18) rounded out the standings.
The Engineers racked up 17 total individual top 10 finishes at the event, led by senior
Cassie Zimmerman (East Hampton, CT), who notched three. She was fourth in both the triple jump (10.38m (34-00.75) and high jump (1.46m (4-09.50) and took eighth place in the 60m hurdles finals, going 10.46.
Senior
Olivia Spielberger (Hingham, MA), junior
Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA), and junior
Lydia Beers (Norfolk, CT) all nabbed two top 10 finishes each. Spielberger took third place in the triple jump (10.53m (34-06.75)) and ninth in the long jump (4.57m (15-00.00)), Fisher was sixth in the 60m hurdles finals (9.7) and ninth in the triple jump (9.60m (31-06.00), and Beers took fourth in the long jump (4.74m (15-06.75)) and ninth in the high jump (1.36m (4-05.50).
Sophomores
Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) and
Charly Painter (Littleton, MA) both added top three individual finishes. Steckley was third in the mile in 5:44.1 and Painter was third in the pole vault, going 2.95m (9-08.00).
Wrapping up the individual events, freshman
Julia Fronc (Plaistow, NH) was fifth in the 400m (1:04.8), senior
Elie Bowman (Oakdale, CT) was sixth in the 3000m (11:04.3), sophomore
Grace Connell (Far Hills, NJ) took ninth in the 3000m (11:47.3) and graduate-student
Kathryn Butziger (East Greenwich, RI) was 10th in the 200m.
In the relay, the Engineers "B" team of Steckley, Daly, Bowman, and Reynolds combined for a third-place finish in the 4x400m, as the squad went 4:25.72.
WPI is back in action next weekend at the two-day Tufts Cupid Invitational in Medford, MA. The event begins on Friday at 2:30pm and will continue Saturday at 10am.
