Cambridge, MA --- The WPI men's track and field team capped a successful weekend of competition with a school record performance and a host of top-ten finishes at MIT's Gordon Kelly Invitational on Saturday.
Junior
Dylan Serreyn (Windom, MN) bettered his own school record in the triple jump, pushing his top effort to 14.07m (46-02.00). He finished second overall at the event, tying for the top spot before dropping the tiebreaker, but improved his postseason qualifying standard.
Sophomores
Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) and
Michael Zuo (Worcester, MA) also surpassed postseason marks at MIT. Anderson took fourth in the weight throw with a 16.41m (53-10.25), moving him into fifth overall in program history. Zuo bettered his PR in the event (13.77m, 45-02.25) and took fourth in the shot put with a 14.21m (46-07.50), a season-best effort.
Three freshmen Engineers nabbed top 10 finishes in the 400m event, let by
Will Larsen (Chelmsford, MA) who took fourth place in 52.39. Classmate
Theo Burrell (East Haddam, CT) took fifth in 52.69 and
Colin Squier (Douglas, MA) was eighth in 54.33. Squier also nabbed tenth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.77.
In the 200m, freshman
Will Kelley (Medford, MA) and sophomore
Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA) placed in the top 10. Kelley was sixth in 23.85 while Manteria took ninth place in 23.95.
Senior
Chris Nguyen (Tewksbury, MA) and sophomore
Ajay Bellamy (Stratford, CT) finished ninth and tenth in the pole vault with Nguyen going 4.00m (13-01.50) and Bellamy, 3.70m (12-01.5).
Wrapping up the meet with a victory, freshman
Jurjen Bouvier (Longmeadow, MA), Burrell, Squier, and Larsen won the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:39.63.
WPI competes again on Saturday, February 22 at the Triangle Classic beginning at 10:30am at Springfield.
