Boston, MA and Cambridge, MA --- The WPI women's track and field team had solid performances all around in a dual meet weekend. The Engineers had student-athletes competing at MIT's Gordon Kelly Invitational and at BU'S David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
At MIT, junior
Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA) and senior
Cassie Zimmerman (East Hampton, CT) led the way for the Crimson and Gray with two top 10 performances each. Fisher took third in the 60m hurdles with a season-best time of 9.45 and finished fourth in the triple jump, going 10.40m (34-01.50). Zimmerman finished fifth in the triple jump with a 10.30m (33-09.50) and took eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.51m (4-11.50).
Senior
Olivia Spielberger (Hingham, MA) also had a great meet, notching a season-best and post-season qualifying effort in the triple jump. She went 10.65m (34-11.25).
Junior
Lydia Beers (Norfolk, CT) and sophomore
Charly Painter (Littleton, MA) also nabbed top 10 finishes. Beers took 10th in the high jump with a height of 1.51m (4-11.50), while Painter equaled her season-best with a seventh-place performance in the pole vault. She went 2.95m (9-08.00) and took 12th in the long jump with a leap of 4.40m (14-05.25).
At BU, WPI notched three personal best times. Sophomore
Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) hit a PR in the 800m, going 2:23.02, while freshman
Rayna Thompson (Brentwood, NH) ran a 25.75 in the 200m, also a personal best.
In the 400m, freshman
Julia Fronc (Plaistow, NH) clocked in at a collegiate-best 1:04.58, while senior
Lauren Mitcheson (West Bridgewater, MA) also raced strong, going 1:05.65.
The Engineers return to the track on Saturday, February 22 at the Triangle Classic at Springfield. Action begins at 10:30am.
