WORCESTER -- The WPI men's and women's swimming and diving teams faced stiff competition on night one of the 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships at the WPI Sports & Recreation Center.

The men's team sits in sixth place with 45 points after three events. Freshman
Thomas Fitzgerald (East Longmeadow, MA) led the way with a fifth-place finish in the 3-meter diving final, scoring 376.65 points. Senior
Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY) added valuable points with an eighth-place finish (319.90).

In the pool, the men's 800-free relay "A" team of
Aidan Greenfield (Northport, NY),
Nolan Schlessman (Sudbury, MA),
Sean Tesoro (Reading, MA), and
Nikita Zuev (Wallingford, CT) clocked a time of 6:56.43 but was disqualified due to an early takeoff. The "B" relay team of sophomore
Brian Hall (Westford, MA), sophomore
Jacob Antonovich (Fairfax, VT), senior
Jack Duryea (Sag Harbor, NY), and junior
Gavin McCullough (Geneva, IL) teamed up to take 15th in 7:06.83.
On the women's side, WPI sits in 10th place with 14 points. The "A" relay squad of senior
Lada DiMascolo (Puyallup, WA), freshman
Veronica Finucane-Tuccio (Excelsior, MN), freshman
Kate Creusere (Las Cruces, NM), and senior
Kristina MacLeod (Jackson Hole, WY) posted a competitive time of 7:49.27 in the 800-free relay. Still, another unfortunate disqualification saw the top foursome go without points.

Audrey Dino (St. Louis, MO), sophomore
Katrina Waite (Falmouth, ME), junior
Kaitlyn Grove (Cheshire, CT), and senior
Anna Callaghan (Yorktown Heights, NY) added valuable points with a 14th-place finish in 8:04.17.
Competition resumes Friday with a full slate of events, including the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 400 medley relay, and women's 1-meter diving.
