WORCESTER -- The WPI men's swimming and diving team held firm in fifth place after a strong third day at the 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships at the WPI Sports & Recreation Center.
The Engineers have 436.5 total points and sit in fifth place heading into the final day. MIT leads the meet with 967 points, followed by Coast Guard in second with 729 and Babson in third at 508. Springfield (496.5) is fourth, followed by WPI, Wheaton (421), and Clark (170).
Senior
Fraser Milligan (Middlebury, VT) led the way for WPI, placing sixth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:01.80. Sophomore
Brian Hall (Westford, MA) and junior
Jake Thomas (Wenham, MA) also reached the finals, finishing ninth (4:15.27) and 10th (4:17.72), respectively. Freshman
Keegan Rowe (Harpswell, ME) added a 12th-place finish (4:13.98) in the event.
In the 100 Fly, junior
Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA) secured a sixth-place finish with a time of 49.47. Sophomore
Dean Doubek (Arnold, MD) placed 13th (50.89), while sophomore
Lucas Pralle (Wayland, MA) finished 19th (52.19).
Sophomore
Nolan Schlessman (Sudbury, MA) led WPI in the 200 Free with an 11th-place finish (1:41.82). Senior
Aidan Greenfield (Northport, NY) finished 17th (1:44.74), freshman
Nikita Zuev (Wallingford, CT) placed 19th (1:45.75), and junior
Gavin McCullough (Geneva, IL) took 20th (1:47.01).
In the 100 Breast, freshman
Tyson Elliott (Portland, OR) placed 12th with a time of 57.50, while senior
Eli Budde (Sykesville, MD) took 15th (59.39).
Freshman
Angad Ahluwalia (Attleboro, MA) led WPI in the 100 Back, finishing 14th (53.35). Sophomore
Jacob Antonovich (Fairfax, VT) and sophomore
Ryan Ng (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) followed in 19th (54.66) and 20th (55.44), respectively.
On the boards, senior
Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY) placed seventh in the 1-Meter Diving event with a score of 339.55. Freshman
Tom Fitzgerald (East Longmeadow, MA) added a ninth-place finish (328.85).
The Engineers closed out the session with strong performances in the 200 Medley Relay. The 'A' team of Smith, Elliott, Doubek, and sophomore
Sean Tesoro (Reading, MA) placed fourth with a time of 1:32.40. The 'B' team of Ahluwalia, senior
Jack Duryea (Sag Harbor, NY), McCullough, and freshman
Angelo Reade (Newburgh, NY) finished 16th in 1:36.20.
Competition concludes Sunday with a full slate of events, including the 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 1650 Free, and the 400 Free Relay.
