Boston, MA --- The WPI track and field team had a solid opening day of competition at the New England Division III Indoor Championships at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston.

The men's distance medley relay saw the foursome of graduate-student
Jarrett Gulden (Walpole, ME), freshman
Will Larsen (Chelmsford, MA), freshman
Daniel Narvaez (Wayland, MA), and graduate-student
Ben Trantanella (Westford, MA) team up for a 10th place finish in 10:38.68.

In the 1000m, all three WPI runners finished in personal-best times. On the women's side freshman
Catherine Daly (Groton, MA) finished 14th overall in 3:09.54. On the men's side, senior
Brendan May (Rutland, MA) clocked in at 2:33.35 and freshman
Alden Betterley (Bow, NH) followed at 2:34.11.

Narvaez also notched a personal best time at the meet. Racing in the 600m, he finished in a time of 1:24.52.

WPI had three entries in the shot put, as sophomore
Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) took 11th (14.30m), sophomore
Michael Zuo (Worcester, MA) took 12th (14.09m) and freshman
John Cummings (Dallas, PA) was 27th (13.19m).

Sophomores
Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA) and
Ajay Bellamy (Stratford, CT) competed in the 60m dash prelims with Manteria finishing in 7.06 seconds and Bellamy, 7.13 seconds. Freshman
Rayna Thompson (Brentwood, NH) also ran in the 60m dash prelims, finishing in 8.00.

In the 60m hurdles prelims, sophomore
Daniel Kim (Orange, CT) finished with a time of 8.79 seconds, while junior
Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA) clocked in at 9.60 in the women's event.

In the women's 4x200m relay, Fisher, junior
Lydia Beers (Norfolk, CT), freshman
Julia Fronc (Plaistow, NH), and senior
Lauren Mitcheson (West Bridgewater, MA) wrapped up the day one highlights by finishing in 1:51.43.
