Medford, MA --- Junior
Dylan Serreyn (Windom, MN) and graduate-student
Avinash Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) each posted victories to lead the WPI men's indoor track and field team at the Tufts Cupid Challenge this weekend.
Serreyn had a pair of top three finishes, winning the triple jump with a leap of 13.63m (44-08.75) and taking third in the high jump with a 1.90m (6-02.75) effort. Bissoondial took home the 3000m title finishing the race in a time of 8:23.86.
The Engineers tallied eight other individual top five performances at the event, led by runner-up placements from sophomores
Daniel Kim (Orange, CT) and
Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA). Kim took second in the 60m hurdles, going 8.61, while Manteria was second in the 60m with a time of 7.06.
Sophomore
Ajay Bellamy (Stratford, CT) collected a pair of top five finishes. He was fourth in the 60m in 7.14 and fifth in the pole vault with toss of 3.60m (11-09.75).
Graduate-students
Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT) and
Chris Nguyen (Tewksbury, MA) and sophomore
Gabriel D'Amour (Somers, CT) all recorded fourth place finishes at the event. Andrew was fourth in the 200m in 22.81, Nguyen took fourth in the pole vault with a 3.90m (12-09.50), and D'Amour took fourth in the 400m in 51.18.
Senior
Matthew Catuccio (Trumbull, CT) notched a third-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.90m (6-02.75) and took seventh in the pole vault with a 3.45m (11-03.75).
Sophomore
Ethan Ramirez (Burlington, CT) recorded a seventh-place finish in the heptathlon, racking up 4,416 points. He was fifth in the 60m and in the top nine in the long jump, 1000m, and pole vault.
Wrapping up the individual highlights, freshman
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) and senior
Brendan May (Rutland, MA) each recorded postseason qualifying marks in the 1000m. Wyche was sixth in 2:34.30 and May took seventh in 2:34.86.
In the 4x400m relay, D'Amour, junior
Everett Mosher (Chester, VT), Andrew, and Kim teamed up to finished second overall in a time of 3:27.75. The foursome of sophomore
Koray Boybeyi (Reston, VA) and freshmen
Jurjen Bouvier (Longmeadow, MA),
Theo Burrell (East Haddam, CT) and
Colin Squier (Douglas, MA) also raced well, going 3:33.89 to place sixth overall.
WPI has three meets on the schedule next weekend. The track athletes will race at the BU Invitational on Friday, and on Saturday the field athletes will compete at MIT's Gordon Kelly Invitational and the DMR will race at the Tufts Invitational.
