Amherst, MA and New London, CT --- The WPI women's track and field team collected personal bests and New England Division III qualifying marks at the UMass Lafreniere Commonwealth Outdoor Invitational on Saturday.
Freshman
Rayna Thompson (Brentwood, NH) continued her strong season with a pair of top-10 finishes and two season-best times. She took seventh in the 100m dash (12.53) and ninth in the 200m (25.88), with her 200m time hitting the New England DIII qualifying mark.
In the relays, Thompson teamed with
Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA),
Lauren Mitcheson (West Bridgewater, MA), and
Julia Fronc (Plaistow, NH) for a sixth-place finish in the 4x100m relay (50.71). The 4x400m squad of
Bethany Brown (Allentown, PA), Mitcheson, Fronc, and Thompson placed 10th in 4:14.22.
Brown also posted a personal-best in the 400m hurdles (1:06.89) to finish 11th, while Fisher recorded a season-best 15.92 in the 100m hurdles to place 17th and meet the regional qualifying standard.
Senior
Olivia Spielberger (Hingham, MA) landed a personal-best 10.93m in the triple jump to finish 14th. In the high jump, senior
Cassie Zimmerman (East Hampton, CT) cleared 1.46m for eighth, and senior
Piper O'Connell (North Attleboro, MA) placed 10th in the javelin with a top mark of 33.57m.
Additionally,
Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH) continued her strong outdoor season Friday evening with a sixth-place showing in the 10,000 meters at the Conn College Elite Distance Meet. The junior finished in a time of 38:23.15 to turn in her third different PR and postseason standard (3,000 steeplechase, 5,000 meters, 10,000 meters).
WPI will be back in action next Saturday, competing at the Trinity Invitational in Hartford, CT.
