WORCESTER -- WPI Men's Rowing posted a series of impressive finishes Sunday morning on Lake Quinsigamond, highlighted by a victory in the Varsity Four and second-place performances in all four events against nationally ranked Bates and Hamilton.
The Varsity Eight crew, ranked 11th in the most recent IRCA/IRA Men's Collegiate Rowing Preseason Poll, delivered a competitive effort, clocking a time of 6:08.95 to finish just behind No. 7 Bates (5:58.60) and ahead of No. 10 Hamilton (6:10.95).
In the Second Varsity Eight, the Engineers turned in a time of 6:18.97 to secure another runner-up result, again trailing Bates (6:09.80) and finishing comfortably ahead of Hamilton (7:05.20).
The Third Varsity Eight saw two WPI boats in action. The 3V crew crossed in 6:29.09 for second place, with the 4V crew right behind at 6:37.13, edging out Bates' 4V (6:44.77) to place third overall.
Racing wrapped up with a strong performance in the Varsity Four, where WPI claimed the victory in 7:31.6, topping Bates' A entry (7:37.41) and Bates' B boat (8:36.80).
WPI returns to the water of Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday, competing against Connecticut College, (RV) Colby and No. 5 Trinity beginning around 9am.
The Engineers are back in action Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond, facing off with fifth-ranked Colby, No. 9 Ithaca, top-ranked Trinity and No.6 Marietta beginning at 9:40am.
