Hartford, CT --- The WPI men's track and field team raced in a pair of events this weekend to close the outdoor regular season. On Saturday, the Engineers finished second overall out of 12 teams at the Trinity Invitational on Saturday, racking up 126 points, placing behind only RPI (187). A pair of student-athletes were also in action on Friday at MIT.
Daniel Kim (Orange, CT) led the charge on the track, scoring big with a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best 55.13. He also took second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.37), hitting New England DIII standards in both races. WPI swept the top four spots in the 400-meter hurdles, with
Will Larsen (Chelmsford, MA),
Theo Burrell (East Haddam, CT), and
Colin Squier (Douglas, MA) finishing second through fourth, all in personal-best times.
In the sprints,
Alex Cole (Weymouth, MA) took sixth in the 100m (10.85) and eighth in the 200m (21.78), running a PR in both events. He was joined in the 200m final by
Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT), who ran a PR of 21.86 for ninth. Personal bests also came from
Ethan Schnyer (Nashua, NH) (22.23),
Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA) (22.25), and
Justin Serrecchia (Lakeville, MA) (22.47).
In the 800m,
Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) was fourth in a new PR of 1:53.11, while
Brendan May (Rutland, MA),
Daniel Narvaez (Wayland, MA), and
Luke Holden (Carver, MA) each recorded personal bests.
WPI earned second a pair of men's relays. The 4x100m squad of Manteria, Schnyer, Cole, and Andrew clocked 41.08, a new program record and currently 17th in NCAA Division III. In the 4x400m relay, Kim joined
Koray Boybeyi (Reston, VA),
Anthony Minichiello (Burlington, MA), and
Gabriel D'Amour (Somers, CT) to place second in a season-best 3:21.60.
WPI's mixed relay team of
Bethany Brown (Allentown, PA),
Alden Betterley (Bow, NH),
Lauren Mitcheson (West Bridgewater, MA), and Mosher established the program record in the 4x400m mixed relay, winning the event in 3:49.35.
The field events saw
Gavin Fleck (Bend, OR) win the pole vault at 4.70m, and
Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) score two podiums, first in the shot put (14.30m) and third in the discus (42.55m).
Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) had a big day, taking second in the high jump (2.00m), the third-best mark in WPI history, and second in the triple jump (13.50m).
Matthew Catuccio (Trumbull, CT) was fifth in the high jump (1.80m).
The javelin trio of
Ben Furman (Groton, MA),
Michael Neff (West Hartford, CT), and
Matt Richards (Peabody, MA) went 2-5-6 with season-best throws for Furman (56.92m) and Neff (54.47m).
While most of the team competed in Hartford, two Engineers raced under the lights at MIT's Sean Collier Invitational on Friday night.
Avinash Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) shattered the outdoor school record in the 5000m, winning the race in 14:25.37.
Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH) also ran in the 5K, clocking in at 15:15.20.
WPI returns to action Friday and Saturday at the 2025 NEWMAC Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke in South Hadley, MA.
